History
Working through City Council representative, Becky Haskin, concerned Woodhaven residents and business owners justified to the City a critical need for a redevelopment plan. On October 28, 2004, the City of Fort Worth engaged Gideon Toal, Inc. to provide a redevelopment feasibility analysis for Woodhaven. Gideon Toal's distinguished successes in Fort Worth include the Radio Shack, Trinity River, and downtown Lancaster Avenue projects.
The Redevelopment Plan would consist of a mix of uses, including current and new residential areas and new retail/commercial/office areas. The Plan would reconfigure the residential areas as it reduced areas of density in the community.
Four workshops were held to give the public opportunities to submit ideas about redeveloping Woodhaven and to provide ongoing communications between the City and the public concerning the status of the project. A Steering Committee consisting of nine city departments, development specialists and representatives from Woodhaven was established.
Gideon Toal, Inc. hired Buxton, a leading Fort Worth retail site location firm, to conduct a study to determine the psychographic analysis of the Woodhaven community. Buxton considered Woodhaven's location, its situation and its goals of developing a primary trade area from which retailers and restaurants would draw customers. Buxton's report included an analysis of the current retail opportunities within a 10-minute radius of Woodhaven and provided a list of potential retailers and restaurants that could be considered in the redevelopment plan.
Gideon Toal, Inc. presented the Woodhaven Redevelopment Plan to City Council in June, 2005. WCD passed a resolution to endorse the Plan as prepared. The City passed a resolution to support the Woodhaven Redevelopment Plan in January, 2006.
