A BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPE AT EAST REGIONAL LIBRARY

Jun 18, 2009

Woodhaven Community Development (WCD) recently donated the funding for a dramatically enhanced landscape at Fort Worth’s East Regional Library. The $8,000.00 donation made possible the beautification of four serpentine planting beds outlined in stone. The beds are planted in flowering perennials, ornamental grasses and colorful annuals.

Early in the fall of 2008, Woodhaven Community Development committed to a long-range project to enhance and maintain the Fort Worth East Regional Library landscaping beyond the level that is provided by the City budget. Since that time, Directors have met with the City’s Parks and Community Services Department, Library officials and the Texas Agricultural Extension Office to develop a comprehensive master landscaping plan.

WCD Director Maxine Parris enthusiastically accepted the responsibility of managing the project. Changes in the landscaping began last fall with the removal of crepe myrtles that were a security issue in the parking lot. Jasmine was planted as a ground cover along the drive and around the book depository. Plantings that include shrubs and annuals on all four islands in the parking lot, a new perennial bed and other shrubs and perennials were completed in June of this year.

WCD also supports special educational needs of the East Regional Library that are not provided in Fort Worth’s annual budget. The Woodhaven Benefit Account has used proceeds from its annual charity golf tournament to make nearly $11,000.00 of donations to the East Regional Library. “The library has been such an important part of the Eastside that Woodhaven Community Development has made it a priority for the last ten years”, said President, Joe Epps.
